YellowstonePark.com Podcasts
Named 'Top 10 Travel Podcasts'

Ranked among National Geographic, Frommer's, Travel with Rick Steves and others.

Lander, WY -- YellowstonePark.com, the Webby Award-winning website based in Lander, was recently honored as being among the "Top 10 Travel Podcasts" by MuseumPods.com.

On June 5, MuseumPods.com, a leading portal that promotes cultural podcasts from around the world, notified YellowstonePark.com about the honor for its Yellowstone Region podcasts. MuseumPods is an academic, non-profit research program dedicated to bringing cultural podcasts to the world.

"We believe YellowstonePark.com set the benchmark for organizations to follow on how podcast technology should be utilized," said MuseumPods founder, Kurt Stuchell. "The primary reasons we honored YellowstonePark.com's podcasts are excellent content of the podcasts and terrific usability. Very few organizations in the world have created a 'total package' podcast program like the one found on YellowstonePark.com. It is a great resource for visitors to the park and for people that may not have the opportunity to visit the parks but just want to learn about them."

Johnson said the honor is particularly fulfilling for the company's team, who went out in the field in a 3-state region last year and produced more than 50 interesting and engaging podcasts.

"To be listed next to other popular travel podcasts like Travel with Rick Steves', Lonely Planet Podcasts, Frommer's Podcasts, Rough Guides and National Geographic is quite an honor," said Shelli Johnson, owner and CEO of Yellowstone International, the company that operates YellowstonePark.com. "We ourselves look to these podcast feeds as leaders in the industry and as being very good at what they do. This is a great honor for us."

Podcasts are mp3 files that can be played on a person's computer or Mp3 player.

"We have become a time-shifted society," said Johnson. "We can download now and listen to later in our desired schedules and places. Increasing numbers of travelers are bringing their Mp3 players on vacation. Podcasts offer a value-add to the vacation experience. And for those who aren't fortunate enough to be able to vacation here, podcasts provide a virtual experience."

Adventures of the West, the company's podcast series, is available for free subscription or download at YellowstonePark.com, on iTunes, Podzinger and other podcast portals, covers a wide range of topics such as cultural events like Cheyenne Frontier Days, the Cody Stampede, Red Desert Roundup, the WYO Rodeo, the Shoshone Indian Powwow, fly-fishing and hiking, and news interviews.

Johnson said one of the strengths of YellowstonePark.com's podcasts is their authenticity. The podcasts are recorded on location and not produced in a studio. Visitors are interviewed and the ambience of the events is captured.

"In the current Web 2.0 landscape, polished and commercial-like shows are out, and un-rehearsed, 'real' coverage is in," said Johnson. "Our team is passionate about the regions and events we're covering so getting to roam these regions and record on-location podcasts is a natural job for us. But more importantly, these podcasts promote the featured events and regions to the world." Also in June, YellowstonePark.com was honored at the Webby Awards on Wall Street in New York City as being the "Best Tourism Website in the World." The Webby Awards judged 8,000 entries from all 50 states and 60 countries.

In addition to YellowstonePark.com, Yellowstone International Corporation publishes 99 Things to Do in Yellowstone Country, and Yellowstone Journal, available in print and RSS Feeds. The company also has 50 podcasts, 40 videos, , a consumer-generated vacation guide to Yellowstone called Trip Notes, International Online Trip Planners in 4 languages, a Photography Guide, and more.
